Misconception – coronary heart disease

The news has frequently reported about heart arteries that are blocked and some people have thought that meant that the large arteries at the top of the heart were becoming blocked which is not the case. And then they thought that it cuts off blood supply or flow to the body. But that is not what the news is talking about when it reports blocked arteries. When the news talks about blocked arteries, they are talking about the small arteries that feed the heart muscle itself with fresh oxygenated blood.

That is a big difference. By looking at an illustration of the heart, It’s possible to see the small arteries that feed the heart muscle and heart tissue with blood and the large arteries on top of the heart that feed the body with blood and to know that they are two different arteries.

This Blog is Created as a General Discussion

One important point to state right away regarding this article is that it is only a general discussion about coronary heart disease for the purposes of helping people to become more aware of the heart and heart failure problems.  It’s written in every day language, and it is not presented as, or claimed to be, a scientific medical journal in any way. Nor is it intended to be viewed as, or taken to be, a formal medical document.

Oxygenated Blood Flow to the Heart Muscle Itself

What many people fail to recognize is that the heart must also supply blood flow to its own muscle. Not to the interior part of the heart but to the exterior part of the heart, the heart muscle itself. There must be an unobstructed regular fresh blood flow to the heart muscle itself. If one looks at a picture of a heart, then one can see the arteries on the surface of the heart muscle that feed the blood to the heart muscle. If the small arteries become obstructed this can lead to coronary heart disease.
