www.naturalhealth365.com www.livestrong.com www.abouthf.org What is congestive heart failure? Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition in which the heart's function as a pump is inadequate to deliver oxygen rich blood to the body. Congestive heart failure can be caused by: diseases that weaken the heart muscle, diseases that cause stiffening of the heart muscles, or diseases that increase oxygen demand by the body tissue beyond the capability of the heart to deliver adequate oxygen-rich blood. The heart has two atria (right atrium and left atrium) that make up the upper chambers of the heart, and two ventricles (left ventricle and right ventricle) that make up the lower chambers of the heart. The ventricles are muscular chambers that pump blood when the muscles contract. The contraction of the ventricle muscles is called systole. Many diseases can impair the pumping action of the ventricles. For example, the muscles of the ventricles can be weakened by heart attacks, infections (myocarditis) or toxins (alcohol, some chemotherapy agents). The diminished pumping ability of the ventricles due to muscle weakening is called systolic dysfunction. After each ventricular contraction (systole) the ventricle muscles need to relax to allow blood from the atria to fill the ventricles. This relaxation of the ventricles is called diastole. Diseases such as hemochromatosis (iron overload) or amyloidosis can cause stiffening of the heart muscle and impair the ventricles' capacity to …

Cardiology care at Evergreen is nationally renowned for its treatment of heart failure. The program has been rated "Five Stars" by HealthGrades for two years in a row. The program also has been recognized by the US government as one of country's most successful programs for heart attack patients. It was one of only 17 hospitals nationwide cited for outstanding heart attack survival rates – recognizing everything from swift diagnosis and treatment to the follow-up care needed to get patients on the road to recovery. Dr. Mark Vossler is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases. He specializes in chronic heart failure, cardiomyopathy, heart disease in pregnancy, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. He serves as the medical director of the heart failure program and cardiac enhancement center at Evergreen Hospital. Dr. Vossler believes the holistic approach to treatment of congestive heart failure (CHF) at Evergreen, through partnership with patients, enables the patient to take control over their disease instead of the disease taking control of them. He knows CHF is scary but he believes that through education he can give the patients cautious optimism about their disease. RIP Ted Barnsworthy. Ted was my best friend. He died from congestive heart failure (CHF) 3 weeks ago, but I just found out last night. After I found out about his death, I decided to write a song about him, and the depression I am feeling right now. Again, RIP Ted Barnsworthy, I will never forget you.

Spike was rescued by us from a life of horrible abuse by his first owner. Eight years later, he's still with us despite having advanced congestive heart failure, & a severe heart murmur as a direct result of his early abusive years. Despite being diagnosed almost 5 years ago with both, and given a survival time of only 6-8 months by heart specialists, he's still with us. He teaches us everyday that ANYTHING is possible, and to never, ever give up on yourself or another being. The coughing at the end is caused by his CHF from his "self drying' exertion, but it doesn't get him down for a minute! After we stopped the video, he went right back to being in the joy of the moment… a lesson all dogs teach us.

Jun Chiong, MD, MPH, FACC, FCCP, Associate Professor of Medicine, Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA, states the US healthcare system does not utilize a team based approach. Dr. Chiong says that hosiptals, home healthcare workers and private physicians act as their own entity. He also says that communication between the provider and patient is the best way to reduce 30-day readmissions for pneumonia, congestive heart failure, and COPD. This video was taken on Sunday, October 21 at the CHEST 2012 conference in Atlanta, GA.

A first-person video narrative, with the viewer filling the role of the main character, enhanced by a computer-controlled pressure vest and reclining chair. The makers of Natrecor (Scios, a division of J&J) believe that the experience of patients in the ER with symptoms of congestive heart failure can be greatly improved with the right treatment, and helping healthcare professionals to better understand that patient experience was an integral component of their marketing plan. They came to Ark Media to create a realistic empathic experience that allowed physicians and other HCPs to walk in the shoes of those CHF patients, from onset of symptoms to hours after arrival at the ER. Participants sat in an enclosed pod in front of a large video screen and surrounded by multi-channel audio. In addition, they wore an inflatable pressure vest and sat in a computer-controlled reclining chair. Once the narrative began, the viewers would take on the persona of a 65-year-old man, seeing the world (in the video) through his eyes. As part of the experience, the vest would apply mild pressure at key moments in the story and the chair would recline when the character reclined (thus worsening the symptoms). Ark Media wrote the story, produced the video, and created the vest and control system that created a unique experience for attendees.
