Why do i wake up with pins and needles in my hands?
Asked: Why do i wake up with pins and needles in my hands?
I keep waking up in the middle of the night (which is unusual for me) with pins and needles in my hands and they are completely numb. Im not entirely sure if its both or just my right hand as im in like a daze when i first wake up so i don't check but im sure its my right hand if not both. I used to think it was because i was laying on my arms and cutting off the circulation but twice i woke up last night and i wasn't laid on them at either time.
Just some background info that might help; Im age 16, female, haven't been in any accidents to cause this, generally healthy person

no to shore maybe your bed is high on one end than the other making less blood to travel to your arms, this happen when i went camping we pitched are tent on a hill and i would get pins and needle either way i slept because the surface wasn't flat,
Many people suffer with this problem sometimes you sleep with your arms above your head or maybe you sleep with your elbow bent then it makes it harder for blood to reach the finger tips.
Also when your asleep your heart rate drops so its inevitable that pins and needles will occur.
Hope that explains
There are many things which can cause pins and needles in hands, and feet.
If you are sure that it's not due to circulation being cut off (can happen if you lie badly) then it's probably due to a hormone or nerve problem.
Keep a pad and pencil by the bed and try and get your brain into gear as soon as you can when you wake up. It's very important to note the time, whether it's in one hand only, both hands together, one hand first then the other, which hand is most affected, does it recover when rubbed, are your feet affected, how many times it happens, and any other details. Write this down at the time (Please make the effort to do this) because you won't remember it later in the morning (trust me, you won't remember all the little details and some may be critical to right diagnosis).
You may be trapping a nerve in your arm which then gets angry and wakes you with the pain, or it may be something else that needs medical attention. Nerve problems are not always life-threatening but they are usually painful and can take ages to get right. Don't suffer any longer than you need to and don't waste time trying "home grown" remedies that may work for someone else but not for you.
The same attention to detail applies if it's a hormonal (or anything else) problem. You need the data to help the doctor determine what's causing your pain.
Make a doctor's appointment and when you have all the data from between now and when you see your GP you will be well prepared. This will help the diagnosis and get you the right treatment sooner.
